JAmes N. Gilbert M.D. M.H.C.M.

Dr. Gilbert was born in New York City, but spent most of his youth in Southern California.  He attended John Muir College at UC San Diego for undergraduate studies, and then did his medical training at UC San Diego School of Medicine and in the Department of Reproductive Medicine.  He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and practiced in Salinas with his group, HealthCare for Women, from 1987 to 2015.

Dr. Gilbert has been involved in Medical Staff leadership for many years, serving in varied roles, including OB/Gyn Department Chair and Chief of the Medical Staff at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.  In May of 2013, Dr. Gilbert completed an in-residence Master’s Degree in Health Care Management at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Having been integral in the development of the Monterey Bay Independent Physician Association, Dr. Gilbert assumed the position as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. He has served in this role full-time since March 2015

Jim and his wife Kimberly, a Salinas native, met the first day of college at UC San Diego.  They happily chose to settle in this area, where they raised their three sons.
