Christopher M. Meckel, MD

Dr. Meckel was raised locally in Carmel, graduating from Carmel High School in 1984. He attended the University of California at Berkeley where he completed his undergraduate degree in medical anthropology. He further pursued his interest in medicine by earning his Masters of Science degree in the biological sciences from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Meckel entered the School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a Dean’s Scholar, and received his medical doctorate degree in 1996. He completed a general surgical internship and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the USC – Los Angeles County Medical Center.

Dr. Meckel pursued advanced training in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, and joint reconstruction in a fellowship with the AOS Medical Center in Glendale, California, where he joined a team of physicians pioneering the latest techniques in anterior total hip replacements and computer assisted total knee arthroplasty.  In 2003, he happily returned to the Monterey Peninsula and co-founded Monterey Spine and Joint where he is recognized as the joint replacement specialist. He dedicates his time to improving joint care on the Central Coast of California.

Dr. Meckel is an associate fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the University of Southern California Graduate Orthopedic Society, and is one of the team physicians for California State University Monterey Bay.   His expertise in joint replacement surgery allows for minimally invasive anterior total hip replacements and minimally invasive, computer assisted knee replacements.

Chris joined the MBIPA Board of Directors in 2014.
