Dr. Oppenheim grew up in Hong Kong and moved to the United States for college, receiving her undergraduate degree form Johns Hopkins University.  She earned her medical degree from The Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA before moving to the Central Coast of California. 

Dr. Oppenheim completed her family medicine residency at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, CA, where she was chief resident.  She became board certified by the American Board of Family Practice after residency.  She has worked in private practice in Salinas since 2001, was one of the small group of physicians who originally worked to develop the MBIPA, and is one of its founding directors.

Joanna enjoys spending time outside riding her bike, running and swimming.  She spends most of her non-professional hours, along with her husband and physician partner Peter, raising their three children.
